Oral Surgery
There are a variety of reasons why one might be required to undergo oral surgery. Some of these include having your wisdom teeth removed, tooth loss, facial injury, TMJ syndrome, snoring, dental implants and more. However, no matter how necessary your surgery may be, the thought of undergoing oral surgery can be anxiety-inducing for many people. To help ease your nerves, Millennium Dental offers IV Sedation dentistry. IV Sedation dentistry is a safe way to “sleep” through your oral surgery. You'll come out of your appointment with little to no memory of the experience. It will be like you were sleeping the entire time. Dr. Siman has been specially trained in both IV sedation and oral surgery so that you can have the most relaxed and comfortable oral surgery experience with the latest technology and advancements in the dental industry.
Do you need Oral Surgery?
- If your wisdom teeth are impacted, removing them will be more involved than a simple tooth extraction. Part of your jawbone will need to be removed in order to get to the tooth, which will make oral surgery a part of your plan.
- When you experience tooth loss, either from injury or from aging, dental implants are a great alternative to traditional dentures. The implants are attached directly to your jawbone and function as natural teeth, giving you confidence and greater functionality. In order to attach the implant to the jawbone, oral surgery is needed.
- TMJ syndrome is when the temporomandibular joint that attaches the jawbone to the skull is misaligned. The side effects of this misalignment range from headaches to lockjaw to chipped teeth. Most of the time TMJ disorder can be fixed nonsurgically, however there are extreme cases when full mouth construction is necessary.
- Snoring and sleep apnea is another problem that can usually be fixed without the need for surgery. But there are cases when these nonsurgical treatments are not enough. Some people may need to have excess soft tissue removed from the back of the throat or the lower jaw.
These are only a few examples of when oral surgery is necessary.
